My Top Tips for Achieving Healthy Hair!

Here are my TOP TIPS FOR ACHIEVING HEALTHY HAIR:

1. Moisturize and seal your hair daily!
Moisturize your hair every morning with a natural and/or organic, water-based leave in conditioner.  Just like you should drink water every day so should you take a few minutes to hydrate your hair before you head out the door. To help lock in that moisture, you want to follow up with either an oil or butter followed by a cream (or a cream first followed by an oil or butter). Everyone's hair is different so that specific order will be up to you. Personally, I have seen my best results when I seal in the moisture with an oil or butter first, followed by a heavy cream. As always, do what you know is best for you, your hair and your lifestyle.

2. Do not become too lazy with your hair and scalp!
Notice I said 'too' lazy. Why? Because we are all human and we are not perfect so there will be many days when we do not want to do our hair and become lazy with it. Just do not let this happen too often so you do not experience breakage, split ends, single strand knots, etc. When you become too lazy with your hair, damage is not too far away. So, allow yourself to have a moment here and there when you "just don't feel like doing your hair" but do not make it a daily habit, please.

3. Eat and drink healthy and exercise!
Eating healthier foods, drinking plenty of water and exercising consistently does amazing things for your body, including your hair. Though we have heard this many times, you really do want to take care of your body, inside and out. Now that it is warming up in many areas, start taking those 30 minute walks before or after work. Gather a group of co-workers and walk around your office building during your lunch break. Do an at home DVD workout program if you are unable to make it out of the house. Take your kids to the park and make up your own workout routine while they play. If your child loves a specific sport, challenge them to a game or two. That way you can exercise and still bond with your child. Join a fitness class at your local gym or recreation center. Your hair, skin and body will love you for it!

4. Stick with what works!
Years ago there were hardly any natural hair products on the shelf and now, stores have aisles dedicated to natural hair products only. It is awesome! On the other hand, sometimes it can be extremely tempting to want to try every new product that comes out. If you already have a hair care regimen that works for you; your hair is healthy, it is growing, your scalp is healthy, all of the products fit in your budget, stick with what you know. It is not to say that you cannot try anything new but you do not want to get caught up trying too many new products that the health of your hair and scalp is at risk.

5. Learn to relax!
I am still working on this for myself but we have to learn how to slow down, breathe and take a moment to relax. Life is life so it will be stressful at times, maybe many times, but find a moment in all of that chaos to enjoy a massage, take a quiet, calm bubble bath, go on a natural walk, have a nice lunch with friends (without drama-filled conversations) or treat yourself to a mini vacation. How your body feels on the inside will reflect on the outside, eventually. There was a point in my life when I was stressed out that my hair broke because it was extremely dry and I did not take care of it properly. Honestly, it seemed like no matter what I did to get it healthier it would not because of the amount of stress I allowed to consume my life. So, I highly recommend you find some balance in your life so your hair, mind, body and soul can benefit!

So those are a few of my top tips for achieving beautiful, healthy hair! I hope you enjoyed!
